Naman Shah is a family physician and epidemiologist at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. He oversees programs in health alerts, consumer protection, oral health, clinical administration, and disease surveillance informatics that contribute to innovative and just approaches to health for 10 million residents. He has led major initiatives including medical debt prevention and relief, the distribution of medical countermeasures in COVID-19, mpox, and wildfire emergencies, and provides refugee and tuberculosis care. Previously, Dr. Shah worked in Gallup, New Mexico and Central, rural India providing full-spectrum care for underserved communities. His global collaborations include work on maternal health, emergency care, and malaria control. He serves on the World Health Organization’s Ethics Review Committee and holds adjunct faculty appointments at UCLA and USC. Dr. Shah completed his family medicine residency at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and earned both his MD and PhD in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow, a de Beaumont Foundation 40 under 40 awardee, and a California Health Care Foundation Leadership Fellow.
